Apple TV Gains Native VPN Support with tvOS 17
Apple, the technology giant headquartered in Cupertino, has recently launched tvOS 17, the latest operating system for its television, which offers a variety of new features for Apple TV users. These features include the integration of FaceTime, a redesigned Control Center, and the inclusion of support for VPN apps.
While it’s not yet decided whether there will be any restrictions, this update promises improved functionality for Apple TV users, MacRumors reports. According to the report, VPN apps can allow Apple TV users to watch geo-restricted content from anywhere, such as the US version of Netflix in another country.
However, in its statement, Apple focused on how VPN apps can benefit business and educational users, so it’s possible that Apple can restrict the apps’ usage.
tvOS 17 will be released later this year and is now available in beta for anyone with an Apple developer account. The software update is compatible with all Apple TV 4K and Apple TV HD models released in 2015 and later.
The first VPN apps should start appearing in the Apple TV App Store in the coming months, MacRumors said
Apple tvOS 17 also added an all-new Control Center and other improvements that provide a more personalized user experience that works even better with iPhone.
Apple TV 4K combines Apple TV+ and popular streaming apps – with cinematic picture and sound quality – as well as Apple Music, Apple Fitness+ and Apple Arcade.
tvOS 17 strengthens Apple TV and iPhone integration to locate the Siri Remote. Users can launch Apple TV Remote in Control Center on iPhone to find Siri Remote (2nd generation or later). As users approach the remote control, the circle on the screen grows to guide their movements.
In addition, when using the iPhone remote to wake up and control the Apple TV, users are automatically redirected to their profile, ensuring they have access to recently watched shows and personalized recommendations.
